Manager, Content Services / Editor-In-Chief

LOCATION: CALGARY

STATUS: Full-time

DATE: August 2010  

Based in Hockey Canada’s Calgary office, this is a full-time position in our communications department, geared towards someone with relevant experience in content delivery, preferably in a sport environment.  The candidate should possess excellent writing skills, a strong background in new media communication (web, social media, etc.) and must have an excellent knowledge of hockey at all levels as well as having outstanding computer skills on a PC platform.

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

Reporting to the Director, Communications/ Media Relations, the Manager, Content services/ Editor-in-Chief will:
• Oversee and lead content delivery for all of Hockey Canada’s communications platforms including, but not limited to, Hockey Canada’s website, social media, event programs, under the direction of the Director, Communications/ Media Relations;
• In collaboration with Director, Communications/ Media Relations, lead the growth of Hockey Canada’s social media strategy, tracking analyzing social media performance
• Support Director, Communications/ Media Relations in the development of overall communications strategy based on organization’s priorities and key messaging;
• Assist with the enhancement of overall internal and external communications for Hockey Canada;
• Lead the coordination of content development around Hockey Canada’s domestic championships, teams, events and development programs;
• Manage and develop content sharing opportunities with current and potential partners to support Hockey Canada content development and to enhance Hockey Canada’s image and presence internally and externally
• As assigned, attend national and/or international events and work in a content development capacity;
• Writing and proofing of content for website, social media platforms and for game programs ;
• Work with volunteers and committees at domestic and international events – assigning and coordinating content development for Hockey Canada’s communications platforms;
• Assist with media relations, media servicing and event servicing where possible and where required;
• Other duties as assigned

ESSENTIAL SKILLS:

• Bilingualism in English and French (Written and Verbal) an asset
• Advanced knowledge and passion for hockey at all levels, including knowledge of hockey statistics, profiles and players
• Experience in content development for various media platforms, i.e. written word, web, social media, etc.
• Strong communications skills, both verbal and written
• Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills
• Experience in leading staff, managing people and working with volunteers
• Advanced computer skills in MS Office (Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and Internet Explorer)
• Advanced internet and social media skills with Facebook, Twitter and blogging
• Ability to manage and prioritize a number of tasks at one time
• Deadline-oriented; experience at getting projects done quickly with high standards of quality
• Knowledge of Hockey Canada structure and programs
• Available to travel as required:
• Available to work weekends, evenings and holidays as required and as assigned as part of duties.
