The Notre Dame Hounds of Saskatchewan will attempt to become only the second team to ever win back-to-back
TELUS Cup titles when the 2010 National Midget Championship opens on April 19 in Lévis, Que.
Notre Dame defeated the Pembina Valley Hawks 6-3 on Sunday to claim the West Region championship in
Morden, Man. The Hounds will try to defend their 2009 title and join the Prince Albert Mintos (2006 and 2007)
as the only team to win consecutive TELUS Cup titles.
Joining Notre Dame at the dance will be the host Commandeurs de Lévis, St. John’s Fog Devils (Atlantic),
Mississauga Reps (Central) and Red Deer Optimist Rebels (Pacific). St. John’s reached the TELUS Cup with a
6-3 win over the Miramichi Rivermen, Mississauga punched its ticket by beating the Ottawa Jr. 67’s 7-3 and
Red Deer returns to the national championship for the first time since it hosted the 2007 tournament thanks
to a 2-1 overtime win over the Vancouver North West Giants. Red Deer’s win came in Game 3 of its
best-of-three series with the Giants.
The sixth and final spot in this year’s TELUS Cup could be determined as early as Tuesday evening. Collége
Antoine-Girouard has a stranglehold on its best-of-seven series with Lac St-Louis. The Gaulois leads the
series 3-1, with Game 5 on Tuesday night at Lac St-Louis.
