The basic role of the official can be broken down into two simple words –safe and fair. By viewing and
officiating the game with these two words in mind, an official should be able to call a game that is
acceptable to all of the participants.
Hockey Canada officiating program clinics are presented annually across the country by the various branches
between September and December. Please contact your provincial branch, branch referee-in-chief, or branch
clinic coordinator to find dates and locations of officiating clinics, and registration information. Each
official must attend the officiating clinic each year.
